A Couple of Calm Days Ahead of Autumn's First Storm
Wednesday and Thursday will be dry and fairly warm in Latvia, but a new cyclone arrives on Friday with rain and gusty winds. The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre expects the precipitation to continue into early next week.

Wednesday, 7 October, is expected to be sunny and dry in Latvia, although clouds will occasionally cover the sky. According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, a light to moderate westerly wind will blow, easing in the evening. Overnight temperatures will fall to +5...+9°, with warmer readings of +10...+13° along the coast. Daytime highs will reach +14...+17°.
Thursday: warmer and still dry
On Thursday, sunshine will alternate with clouds, and in the evening skies will become overcast in western areas. The weather will stay dry overall. Fog may form in places overnight under light winds. During the day, a light to moderate south-easterly and southerly wind will blow. Night-time lows will be around +5...+10°, while daytime temperatures will turn pleasantly warm, rising to +15...+19°.
Friday: a cyclone approaches
Towards the end of the week, a new cyclone will approach Latvia from the west. On Friday clouds will cover the sky, with the sun breaking through only in places. Rain is expected across most of the country, and in Vidzeme it will be prolonged and heavy. South-easterly and southerly winds will gust at 15–19 m/s. From the second half of the night the wind will shift to south-westerly and westerly and strengthen along the coast, with gusts of 20–24 m/s, reaching up to 25 m/s in the afternoon. The gusty wind will subside on Saturday evening.
On Friday, temperatures both by night and by day will stay within +10...+13°. Weekend nights will be slightly cooler, while daytime highs will reach +12...+16°.
Start of next week
At the beginning of the new working week, sunshine will frequently alternate with clouds, and almost all regions will see rain at some point. Winds will become gusty again along the coast. Temperatures will not change significantly and will remain similar to those at the end of this week.
