Sixth literary festival takes place in Pärnu
Pärnu is hosting its literary festival for the sixth time, offering meetings with writers, a book fair and discussions, though financial difficulties may make this the last edition.
The Estonian city of Pärnu is currently hosting a literary festival that gives visitors the chance to meet writers and browse a book fair. This marks the sixth time the event has been held.
The festival opened with a wreath-laying ceremony at the sculpture of Lydia Koidula. The program includes various discussion platforms, meetings with writers, a book fair and concerts.
Possibly the last edition
Although the festival has now run for six years, organizer Merle Jantson notes that staging the event has become increasingly difficult financially with each passing year. As a result, this year's festival could turn out to be the last one.
According to Jantson, the program runs from midday to midnight, and its purpose is to introduce people to the Estonian language, Estonian literature and Estonian writers. The festival features several themed platforms — for children, youth, Pärnu itself and theater — as well as one dedicated to good Estonian language. There is also a discussion platform and a book presentation platform, alongside the main stage.
