The mother of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has filed for temporary custody of his three children after he was hospitalized following a mental health crisis at his home last week. The family says its priority is protecting the children and helping them return to a sense of normalcy.
Court documents filed in Miami-Dade county show that the mother of 48-year-old celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has requested temporary custody of his three children. The filing was made through attorney Natalie F Guerra-Valdes, who said the family's main goal is to protect the children and give them a sense of normalcy after last week's events.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, rose to fame in the mid-2000s as a pioneer of celebrity gossip blogging, posting photos and rumors about pop culture figures of the era, including Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, with whom he had several high-profile feuds.
Crisis and hospitalization
On 4 August, Hilton appeared in a now-deleted TikTok live stream from his home, seemingly naked, covered in blood, with visible cuts and holding what looked like a knife. The Miami-Dade sheriff's office said deputies responded after receiving multiple calls about someone livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media. Hilton's identity was later confirmed by authorities, who said he had been "Baker-Acted" — a Florida provision allowing police, doctors or judges to detain a person for up to 72 hours for involuntary psychiatric evaluation during a mental health crisis.
On Saturday, his family said he remained hospitalized in serious but stabilized condition, and that his injuries would require surgery.
Children left home before livestream
The family later said Hilton's three children, along with his niece and sister, had been in the home just minutes before the live stream began, but fled once it became clear he was undergoing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself. Hilton is reportedly a single parent to the three children, all under 14 and born via surrogacy. The family has asked the public to avoid the area around the home, saying its current focus is helping the children heal and safely return home.
