An elderly man died while waiting in line at a gas station in Petrozavodsk on the morning of June 30, according to the Russian Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti, citing eyewitnesses. The man, about 75, had paid for gas but fell short of a full tank. After his death, the station manager moved his car out of the way and called an ambulance. Russia’s Interior Ministry confirmed the death to journalists.

This is at least the second death linked to Russia’s fuel crisis, which escalated in May and June. On June 28, a 43-year-old man died near a gas station in Chita, local authorities said. According to media reports, the man had not been waiting in line to fill up but had driven a woman he knew there.

Due to the fuel crisis, residents across Russia’s regions have had to line up at gas stations for hours. In Chita, one resident reported waiting for 36 hours.
