Olivia Rodrigo surprises fans with secret Brooklyn concert

Singer Olivia Rodrigo announced on Instagram on Thursday morning that she would perform that same evening at Warsaw, a music venue in a century-old former Polish community hall in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood. Tickets, priced at $25, were sold exclusively in person at the box office rather than online, meaning entry depended on proximity and patience rather than digital luck.

Fans began gathering outside from the morning, with the queue growing despite the heat. Those arriving after 11:20am were already being turned away, and by 11:40am all roughly 1,000 wristbands had been claimed.

A contrast to the big stages

Fourteen months after a headline-stealing set at Glastonbury, the 23-year-old performed for a crowd of barely 1,000 in a room best known for punk shows and a pierogi bar. The intimate gig comes as her third album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love," debuted at No 1 in June with the year's biggest opening week by a female artist. In a few weeks she launches an 86-date world tour, including ten shows at the nearby Barclays Center and eleven concluding shows at London's O2.

An hour-long set with no guests

Rodrigo took the stage at 8:20pm in a pink floral minidress paired with black knee-high boots. Over the course of an hour she performed 15 songs, nine of them from the new album, while leaving out several of her best-known hits. The close quarters amplified the emotional shifts in her music, from quiet, confessional moments to bursts of pop-punk energy. The show ended without an encore after about 60 minutes, leaving the crowd exhilarated by the unexpected and up-close performance.
