Oilers cut Latvian forwards Tralmaks and Bērzkalns from training camp

NHL club Edmonton Oilers have cut two Latvian forwards, Eduards Tralmaks and Rūdolfs Bērzkalns, from their training camp roster. The club confirmed the move itself.

Both players had joined the Oilers' preseason training camp hoping to earn a spot on the roster or at least make a strong enough impression to remain in the club's plans. NHL teams hold training camps every August and September, where both established veterans and younger, less established players — including those attending without a guaranteed contract — are given a chance to compete for roster spots. Over the course of camp, coaching staff gradually trim the number of players as they narrow the group down to the final roster that will open the regular season.

Being cut from camp means Tralmaks and Bērzkalns are, for now, no longer part of Edmonton's plans for the start of this season. The club did not provide further details on what comes next for either player.

Edmonton Oilers have been one of the NHL's leading teams in recent seasons, and getting an opportunity with such a club — even just at training camp — represents meaningful experience for Latvian hockey players, potentially useful as they pursue opportunities with other NHL organizations or continue their careers in the American Hockey League (AHL) or in European leagues.

Both Tralmaks and Bērzkalns are known within Latvian hockey circles as forwards who have been working to establish themselves at the top level of professional hockey in North America.
