Latvia's health service launches tool to help find shorter waits for children's dental care

Long waiting lists for specialists remain one of the most persistent problems in Latvia's healthcare system, with patients often having to wait weeks or even months to see a needed doctor.

Dental care is a particularly sensitive issue for many families, and the difficulty goes beyond long waits. Visiting a dentist often involves significant costs that not everyone can afford, leaving many with no option but to wait in the state-funded queue.

A new tool from the National Health Service

To help address the situation, the National Health Service announced a new solution. Starting now, the website rindapiearsta.lv will publish, once a month, compiled information on where in the country the shortest waiting lists are for a state-funded dentist or dental hygienist appointment for a child.

The tool is meant to let parents choose a healthcare facility with a shorter queue, helping children access needed dental care faster, rather than relying solely on informal tips people have used in the past to try to get seen sooner.
