Leaked Apple code reportedly reveals HomePod mini 2 design in new colors
Images found within Apple's own code base reportedly show an updated HomePod mini in new color options, expected to launch this fall alongside the Siri AI assistant. The overall speaker design appears largely unchanged.
According to MacRumors, images uncovered while digging through Apple's own code base appear to show a refreshed version of the HomePod mini smart speaker — the first significant update to the product in around six years.
The images reportedly reveal that the new model will be offered in green, pink, light blue, white and black. The current HomePod mini comes in yellow, orange, blue, white and midnight black. Based on the images, the speaker's overall shape and design remain largely similar to the original.
Reports had previously suggested Apple plans to launch an updated HomePod mini this fall, likely timed to coincide with the official rollout of the Siri AI assistant. The code findings support the idea that a release is coming soon, aligning with separate reports that both the refreshed HomePod mini and a new Apple TV streaming box are expected to launch later this year.
No pricing or specification details have surfaced. It is speculated, though unconfirmed, that the device could include a new chip given its expected integration with Siri AI and the fact that the original hardware is now six years old.
The original HomePod mini launched in October 2020 at $99, with Apple later raising the price to $129. There has been no hardware refresh since its debut, though Apple did introduce a new colorway in July 2024.
Separately, there are unconfirmed rumors that Apple is developing a distinct smart home hub built around Siri AI, said to resemble a HomePod mini sliced in half and paired with a small display.
