Eight people were rescued from a seaplane that made a hard landing in the Manhattan river in New York. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on social media that air traffic control was not providing services to the aircraft at the time of the incident. According to the New York Times, the plane was traveling from the Hamptons – a seaside retreat for affluent New Yorkers – to a seaplane base when it struck a wave during landing, leading to it partially capsizing. This marks the second seaplane incident in New York in three weeks. On June 13, a small two-seater seaplane was struck by a large wave while attempting to take off from the East River. In that earlier incident, the FDNY rescued a pilot and one passenger from the river.
