Latvian woman missing in Nepal wrote poignant message before her journey

On August 7, days before departing for Nepal, Inga Veisa — one of the Latvian citizens now reported missing after a flood-triggered mudslide in Nepal — published a reflective post on Facebook.

In the post, she described her upcoming trip as a pilgrimage to the sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet. Veisa wrote that August, her birth month, felt especially meaningful this year, marking her transition into a new decade of life. She noted that 12 years had passed since her first major pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago, and that looking back, it seemed to her that every event in her life had gradually been preparing her for this moment.

She planned to fly out on August 8, with the circuit around Mount Kailash due to conclude on August 24 — her birthday. In her post, she wrote that she sensed this day would mark not only the completion of the mountain trek but also the close of one decade of her life and the beginning of a transition into something new.

Veisa also explained why she decided to write publicly about her journey, saying she hoped her story might inspire someone else to find the courage to step outside their routine and pursue their dreams.

As previously reported, three Latvian citizens were unharmed in the flood-triggered mudslide in Nepal, but 33 people, including Veisa, are currently listed as missing.
