The husband of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was involved in a hit-and-run crash in California that left a parked vehicle severely damaged, authorities said Saturday. Paul Pelosi was driving his brown convertible in Yountville, in the heart of wine country, on Friday when he struck a legally parked car, briefly stopped, and then drove away, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office. No injuries were reported.

A witness saw the crash and called 911. Sheriff's deputies soon found Pelosi about a quarter-mile away with damage to the front of his car. He reportedly told officers he knew he hit something but wasn't sure when or what caused it.

Pelosi, 86, had no alcohol in his system, the sheriff's office stated. He was referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine whether he should continue driving, a common procedure for older drivers. He was not arrested, and since no one was injured, the sheriff's office recommended a misdemeanor charge for fleeing the scene.

A spokesperson for the Pelosis said Paul personally apologized to the car's owner and assured them he would take responsibility for the damage. Nancy Pelosi, who is serving her 20th term representing San Francisco and has announced she will retire in early 2027, will not comment further on this private matter.

The crash comes after Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty in 2022 to a misdemeanor DUI charge in Napa County. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation, but served only two days, receiving credit for good behavior. He was also required to attend a three-month drinking driver class, install an ignition interlock device, and pay about $5,000 in victim restitution and nearly $2,000 in fines.

In 2022, an intruder, David DePape, attacked Paul Pelosi at his San Francisco home, severely beating him with a hammer. DePape was later sentenced to life in prison.
