Saturday, August 15, will remain dry across Latvia, but the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre forecasts brief rain in some areas on Sunday. Precipitation is expected to first reach the western part of the country during the second half of the night, spreading to eastern regions by morning, where thunderstorms cannot be ruled out.

Wind will gradually strengthen over the weekend. After remaining light overnight into Saturday, it will pick up to light-to-moderate during the day and on Sunday, blowing mostly from the southwest and west, with gusty conditions expected on Sunday.

Nighttime temperatures will stay mild: overnight into Saturday, the air will cool to +10…+15°C, with coastal areas seeing +16…+17°C in places. The night into Sunday is expected to be slightly warmer still. Daytime highs on Saturday will reach +24…+29°C, while Sunday will be somewhat cooler at +22…+26°C, with western districts and the coast a few degrees cooler than that.

Cyclone to bring change

At the start and middle of next week, weather will be shaped by an approaching cyclone. Skies will be mostly cloudy with only occasional clearing, while precipitation will increase — rain is expected across much of Latvia, with isolated thunderstorms possible. Wind, however, will remain mostly light.

The cyclone's arrival will bring noticeably cooler air. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +10…+15°C, while daytime highs will only reach +16…+22°C, considerably lower than over the weekend.
