Moldova nominates businessman Vasile Tofan as new PM
Businessman Vasile Tofan has been nominated as Moldova's new prime minister, aiming to sign an EU accession treaty by the end of 2028.

Moldova has nominated businessman Vasile Tofan as its new prime minister. In response to a question from journalists about Moldova's EU accession, Tofan stated that he wants the country to sign a treaty to join the Union by the end of 2028.
The previous prime minister, Munteanu, resigned earlier this month, saying he felt he was no longer able to exercise his mandate in accordance with his beliefs. His government had been rocked by several scandals, including the arrest of a state secretary on suspicion of bribery.
Under Moldovan law, Tofan now has 15 days to call a vote of confidence on the government program to confirm his role.
