MiroHost Founder: Only Nuclear or Chemical Weapons Could Knock Out Ukraine's Internet
After a Russian strike destroyed a MiroHost data center in Kyiv, the company's founder said most of Ukraine's critical data is already stored in the cloud abroad, meaning such attacks cannot take the country offline.
The founder of Ukrainian cloud services company MiroHost has commented on a Russian strike that destroyed one of the company's data centers. He stated that fully cutting off Ukraine's internet access would require nuclear or chemical weapons — conventional missile and drone strikes on individual data centers simply cannot achieve that goal.
Data already out of reach
According to the MiroHost founder, most of Ukraine's critical data and systems have already been moved to cloud infrastructure located outside the country. This means that even when Russian forces destroy specific physical data centers inside Kyiv, Ukraine as a whole does not lose access to the internet or its digital resources, since backup systems and servers continue operating elsewhere.
Context
The strike on the MiroHost data center is part of Russia's broader wartime strategy of targeting Ukrainian infrastructure, including digital and communications systems. However, as the company's founder emphasized, this tactic cannot achieve its apparent aim of fully disconnecting Ukraine from the global internet, since the country's IT sector had already taken steps to relocate data and services beyond the reach of direct attacks.
