Russian fashion designer Kirill Gasilin, founder of the Cyrille Gassiline brand, has died at 47. His death was reported by journalist Evelina Khromchenko and fashion historian Anatole Vovk.
According to Vovk, Gasilin died in Moscow on October 4. The cause of death has not been made public.
Influence on fashion
The Voice Mag, formerly Cosmopolitan, wrote that the designer popularized blanket coats and made dresses in refined shades and designer cuts accessible to many Russian women.
Vovk described Gasilin as a great artist with a vision of his own, who had a major impact on Russian fashion and on how contemporary tailoring is perceived. In his words, the designer's clothes were easy to recognize: understated and precise, yet with a distinctive fluidity. Gasilin knew how to handle shape and color so that even the most complex garments looked natural.
He developed his attention to construction partly during an internship at the Paris haute couture house Dominique Sirop. His passion for well-cut clothing later became one of the foundations of his own label.
Costumes for theater and ballet
Beyond designing fashion collections, Gasilin created costumes for the Tokyo National Ballet's program "The Afternoon of a Faun and His Nymph." In 2020, together with fashion historian and "Modny prigovor" ("Fashion Verdict") television host Alexander Vasilyev, he designed costumes for a production of "My Fair Lady" at the Russian Theater in Tallinn, now the Südalinna Theater. In 2023, the designer made costumes for the ballet "La Bayadère" at the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater.
