Raimonds Mežaks has two great passions in life that might seem worlds apart at first glance, yet coexist peacefully in his everyday life — forests and music.

Caring for the forest

As a forester, Mežaks pays close attention to ensuring that forest areas are managed in the most nature-friendly way possible. His work involves a responsible approach to using natural resources, balancing economic activity with the protection of ecosystems.

A passion for music

His other great love is music, which he pursues as a DJ. He researches and collects Latvian music preserved on vinyl records and cassette tapes — both formats that have in recent years been regaining interest among listeners and collectors.

Passing knowledge on

Raimonds Mežaks spoke about how he combines his care for the forest with his passion for music, and how he passes on his experience and knowledge in both areas to others, in an interview on Latvian Radio's programme "Monopols". In the conversation, he shares his perspective both on protecting nature and on preserving Latvian musical heritage in its original, physical formats.
