Melsungen beat Nantes at home while Kristopans remains sidelined
In the group stage of the EHF Champions League, the top European club handball competition, Germany's Melsungen beat France's Nantes 28:23 at home. Latvian handball player Dainis Kristopans is still out injured.
In the European Handball Federation's Champions League, the leading European club handball tournament, Germany's Melsungen beat France's Nantes 28:23 (14:11 at half-time) on home court. It was the third round of the group stage, in Group B. Latvian handball player Dainis Kristopans, whose team is Melsungen, has been out with an injury for some time and again did not play.
Florian Drosten helped secure the win, converting all six of his shots into goals. After three rounds, Melsungen, Poland's Wisla Plock and Nantes each have two wins and one defeat. Melsungen opened the group with a 33:31 victory over Vardar of Skopje and lost 24:25 to Wisla in the second round. Midweek, the Germans travel to France to face Nantes again. Melsungen won the European League in the spring, which is a second-tier European club competition.
Elsewhere in Group B, Wisla won 32:26 in Skopje against North Macedonia's Vardar.
Other results
In Group A, Hungarian champions Veszprem beat Partizan Belgrade 37:26. The team won the Club World Championship in early October for the second time since 2024, beating Barcelona 42:33 in the final. In this Champions League group Veszprem also defeated Berlin's Fuchse 35:29. At the Club World Championship the Hungarians beat the same opponent 34:33.
