Madison scores first goal in 611 days against hometown club as Tottenham earn first Premier League win
Tottenham beat Coventry City 3-1 at home in round seven of the English Premier League, taking their first win of the season. James Madison scored his first goal in 611 days, against the club from his home city.

Tottenham, the London football club, picked up their first win of the English Premier League season in round seven, beating Coventry City 3-1 at home. The result lifted them off the bottom of the table. Coventry had arrived on the back of two consecutive wins.
Madison's return
Midfielder James Madison opened the scoring in the 14th minute. After a run down the right by Mohammed Kudus, he found the top corner with a long-range shot. It was Madison's first start since April 2025, and his previous goal had come on 16 February 2025, 611 days earlier. He was born in Coventry and came through the Coventry academy. Norwich bought him for 2.65 million euros when he was 19.
Second half
Coventry levelled after the break, with Jack Rudoni scoring from close range in the 49th minute, his goal in a second consecutive match. Nine minutes later Tottenham regained the lead when Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush struck a fine shot from the edge of the penalty area. He joined from Manchester City in the summer for 70 million euros, and this was his first goal for the club.
Injuries forced Tottenham to replace Andrew Robertson and Tosin Adarabioyo in the second half, and Marmoush late on. Dejan Kulusevski appeared in a matchday squad for the first time since May 2025 and came on in the 87th minute. Welsh defender Ben Davies sealed the 3-1 win in stoppage time.
League table
After seven rounds Tottenham are 16th with six points, with Coventry 17th on the same total. Manchester City lead with 21 points, followed by Arsenal on 18.
