Massive Ukrainian drone wave hits Moscow area, Russian officials say
Russian authorities reported roughly 650 drones were launched at Moscow and its surrounding region overnight into Tuesday, killing one person. Officials called it one of the largest drone assaults on the capital region in the past two years.

Russia's capital and its surrounding region came under one of the heaviest Ukrainian drone assaults in two years overnight into Tuesday, according to Russian officials.
State news agency TASS reported that around 650 drones were directed at Moscow and the wider region, making it the second-largest such attack on the capital area in the past two years. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the majority of the drones were intercepted, with 105 shot down in close proximity to the city itself.
The strike killed a 20-year-old man in a village on the outskirts of Moscow, regional governor Andrei Vorobyov said, adding that several homes sustained damage. News agency Ria Novosti reported that six people were injured in the assault.
Escalating long-range exchanges
Both Kyiv and Moscow have ramped up long-distance strikes in recent months, hitting civilian and industrial sites including energy facilities, transport links and port infrastructure, as well as vessels in the Black Sea.
Russia has signaled it intends to intensify strikes on infrastructure, including in Kyiv, as winter approaches.
