Marupe case: woman accused of trying to poison husband and young son sent to trial
Prosecutors have referred to court a criminal case against a woman, a medical professional, accused of attempting to murder her partner and young son by poisoning them with medication. Both victims survived after receiving medical treatment.
Latvian prosecutors have sent to trial a criminal case against a woman accused of attempting to kill her partner and their young son by administering dangerous doses of medication.
The accused works as a medical professional, and prosecutors say she used her professional knowledge of drugs and their effects to carry out the attack, which was driven by personal motives.
What happened
The incident took place one evening in December 2025 at the family's home in Marupe. The woman first gave both victims medication, after which they fell asleep. Once they were helpless, she continued administering various drugs to them, both orally and by injection.
Her plan was not carried out to completion because, the following day, another person arrived at the home, noticed what had happened and called emergency medical services. Both victims were rushed to a medical facility.
Consequences for the victims
Doctors determined that as a result of the medication administered, both the husband and the son had entered a life-threatening condition, which experts classified as severe bodily harm.
Prosecutors note that, under Latvia's Criminal Procedure Law, no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance with legally established procedure. The case has now been handed over for trial.
