Marco Arment launches Unforgetful, a reminders app for chronic snoozers

Marco Arment, the independent developer known for creating popular apps like Overcast and Instapaper, and a former CTO of Tumblr, announced his latest project on Friday. Called Unforgetful, it's an alternative to Apple's Reminders app, aimed at people who tend to put things off.

The app works with your existing Reminders database, but it's built for those who find Apple's system doesn't suit them. Arment explained that Siri has always been good at creating tasks, but he dislikes the Reminders app itself—its appearance, functionality, organization, and even its icon. He pointed out specific shortcomings: the snooze behavior, accidentally dismissing a reminder instead of snoozing it, and the fact that forgetting to set a time means no notification, so the task gets lost.

Unforgetful addresses these issues by making it nearly impossible to lose tasks. Notifications keep repeating until the task is actually completed and deleted, even if you dismiss them. The snooze feature is also redesigned, with intervals that scale as you continue to snooze. However, it won't overload you with multiple tasks at once, which could lead to inaction.

The app stays simple—there are no tags, views, modes, or other organization tools. For those who need advanced features, Apple's Reminders remains a better option. Since Unforgetful integrates with your existing Reminders database, you can keep using Siri as usual; you just turn off Apple's notifications and let Unforgetful handle them. And if you decide you don't like the app, there's nothing to export, because your reminders are already stored in Apple's database.

Unforgetful also includes an in-app microphone for voice reminders and a full set of widgets for the Lock Screen and Control Center. It costs $19.99 per year and works across Mac and iOS.
