Manchester City agree deal to sign Marseille goalkeeper Rulli
Manchester City have agreed a £1.7m deal to sign Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille. The 34-year-old has signed a two-year contract and returns to a club he previously played for without a first-team appearance.
Manchester City have reached an agreement to bring in Argentina international goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from French club Marseille for a fee of £1.7m. The 34-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.
This marks a second stint at Etihad Stadium for Rulli, who was part of City's squad during the 2016-17 season but never featured in a first-team match during that spell.
The goalkeeper is well known for his part in the 2021 Europa League final, when Villarreal beat Manchester United on penalties after a lengthy shootout. Rulli converted his own spot-kick before saving the decisive attempt from United's David de Gea to seal victory for his side.
Rulli has earned eight caps for Argentina and was included in the national squad that lifted the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa America. His club career has also taken in spells at several other European sides, including Real Sociedad, Montpellier and Ajax.
He arrives at City to replace England goalkeeper James Trafford, who departed the club for Leeds earlier this week in a deal that could be worth up to £45m. Rulli is expected to serve as understudy to first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
