Maļuka Remains First Reserve for Semifinal at European Championships in Paris
Latvian swimmer Ieva Maļuka finished 17th in the 200m butterfly at the European Swimming Championships in Paris, making her the first reserve for the semifinal. Other Latvian swimmers also failed to advance beyond the qualifying rounds.
At the European Swimming Championships in Paris on Saturday, Latvia's best result came from Ieva Maļuka, who placed 17th out of 26 competitors in the 200m butterfly heats with a time of 2:13.95. The result made her the first reserve for the semifinal, meaning she could still compete if one of the qualified swimmers withdraws.
Other Latvian Results
In the 100m backstroke, Kristians Brenčs finished 49th with a time of 56.05 seconds, Nikolass Deičmans placed 58th at 56.63 seconds, and Ronens Kermans came 64th at 58.39 seconds, out of 66 swimmers.
In the 50m freestyle, Jānis Deivs Dzirkalis placed 52nd with a time of 22.72 seconds, while Valērijs Čurgelis finished 72nd at 23.33 seconds and Dmitrijs Tolstihs 74th at 23.59 seconds, among 77 competitors.
In the 200m individual medley, Emīls Krampe recorded the 26th-best time of 2:06.22, while Nikolass Deičmans finished last among 48 starters with a time of 2:12.16.
About the Championships
Latvia is represented in Paris by 11 swimmers, coached by Pāvels Murāns, Sergejs Kurmeļevs and Andrejs Ostrovskis. Officiating oversight is handled by Ģirts Treiguts, an international-category judge from the Latvian Swimming Federation. The championships feature athletes from 42 European countries and are being held at the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, built for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The European Aquatics Championships conclude on Sunday.
