LVRTC: Border security upgrade on Latvia-Belarus frontier proceeding on schedule
Latvia's State Radio and Television Centre says the installation of modern surveillance technology along the Latvia-Belarus border is proceeding as planned and will be completed by year's end. About half of the border section has already been handed over to border guards.
The Latvian State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC) has stated that the equipping of the Latvia-Belarus border with modern technological security solutions, including video surveillance, is proceeding according to plan and is set to be completed by the end of this year.
According to LVRTC, approximately half of the border section has already been built and handed over for use by the State Border Guard. This means border guards can already make use of part of the new technical capabilities in their daily work.
Response to minister's remarks
LVRTC's clarification came in response to comments by Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava (National Alliance), who had pointed to technical glitches along the border. The minister noted that some surveillance cameras had been physically installed but had not yet been connected to the system, meaning they had not been fully operational.
LVRTC maintains that such issues do not affect the overall project timeline and that the border equipping process as a whole continues on schedule, moving toward completion by the end of the year.
