Luxembourg's space biotech Exobiosphere receives €1 million to advance microgravity drug research
Luxembourg-based Exobiosphere, a startup researching drugs and biomedicine in microgravity, has received €1 million in state funding to expand its operations. The grant comes from a national innovation support scheme.
Exobiosphere, a space biotech startup based in Luxembourg, has been awarded €1 million in non-dilutive funding. The grant was issued through Luxembourg's Jeune Entreprise Innovante (JEI) aid scheme, which is administered by the country's Ministry of the Economy.
The company focuses on drug discovery and biomedical research conducted in microgravity conditions. The underlying premise is that weightlessness allows for experiments and observations that are not possible on Earth, potentially opening new paths toward discovering treatments and cures.
Use of the funding
The €1 million will support several areas of the company's growth, including its commercial expansion, ongoing operations, and the scale-up of its orbital high-throughput research infrastructure.
The JEI scheme is one of the tools used by the Luxembourg government to support young, innovative companies. As non-dilutive funding, it does not require founders to give up equity or ownership stakes in exchange for the support.
