Exclusive Mayfair club's licence suspended amid weapon claim investigation

Westminster City Council has temporarily suspended the operating licence of Maison Estelle, an upmarket private members' club in London's Mayfair district, after the Metropolitan Police applied for the suspension over a report involving a weapon.

The council said the decision followed consideration of the police application and related representations, and that the licence was suspended "in the interest of public safety." The club did not oppose the police's application during the hearing.

Club's response

A spokesperson for Maison Estelle said the safety of staff, members and their guests would always come first, adding that the club is continuing to work closely with the council and police while reviewing its licence conditions and procedures.

What happens next

Councillors are due to hold a full hearing to review the licence within 28 days of the suspension.

About the venue

Housed in a Georgian townhouse, the seven-floor club includes four dining rooms, 11 bars and two floors described as nightlife spaces, according to its website. Annual membership costs £5,950.
