Body of deceased person recovered from quarry in Līvāni municipality

On Friday, rescuers recovered the body of a deceased person from a quarry in Turki parish, part of Līvāni municipality, and handed the body over to State Police officers, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) reported.

Water deaths continue to rise

Since the start of the swimming season on May 15, 32 people have died in bodies of water across Latvia. In total this year, rescuers have pulled 52 deceased people out of the water. By comparison, last year 108 bodies were recovered from water overall, 45 of them during the swimming season.

Road safety figures

The State Police also reported on road conditions nationwide, noting 113 traffic accidents over the past 24 hours, injuring 12 people. Authorities issued 530 administrative violation rulings related to traffic, including 244 for speeding.

In addition, police opened one administrative violation case and four criminal cases over driving under the influence of alcohol.
