Lions climb to second in CFL West after 31-24 win over Roughriders, powered by Rourke's 375 yards

Rourke shines as Lions secure the win
At BC Place in Vancouver on Friday, Sept. 25, the B.C. Lions beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 31-24 in a Canadian Football League (CFL) game. The victory was driven largely by quarterback Nathan Rourke, who completed 22 of 28 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns.
The result pushed the Lions (8 wins, 6 losses) into second place in the CFL's West Division. It was also the third meeting between the two teams this season, and B.C. won the series 2-1 — a result that could serve as a tiebreaker if the two clubs finish the season with identical records.
How the game unfolded
The Roughriders (8-6) started aggressively, with quarterback Trevor Harris driving downfield, but a pass aimed at the end zone hit the upright, forcing Saskatchewan to settle for a 27-yard field goal. The Lions answered quickly: after a 56-yard pass from Rourke to Stanley Berryhill III, a follow-up touchdown pass to Keon Hatcher Sr. put B.C. ahead 7-3.
The lead changed hands several times in the second quarter. Riders kicker Dawson Hodge converted a 31-yard field goal, and Harris then hit Dylan Djete with a 13-yard touchdown pass to put Saskatchewan back on top, 13-10. Just before halftime, however, Rourke connected with Hatcher for a second touchdown, giving the Lions a 17-13 lead heading into the break.
In the third quarter, B.C. extended its lead to 24-13 on a touchdown pass to Jevon Cottoy — a play Riders head coach Corey Mace challenged for possible offensive pass interference, though the on-field call was upheld after video review. In the fourth quarter, Hodge added his third field goal of the night (32 yards) to cut the deficit to 24-16, but Rourke restored a comfortable margin with a touchdown pass to Jermaine Jackson, making it 31-16.
Late in the game, Riders running back A.J. Ouellette — playing his first game back after missing seven weeks with a knee injury — scored from two yards out, finishing with 77 rushing yards on the night. A successful two-point conversion brought the final score to 31-24 in favour of the Lions.
Stats and context
Hatcher finished the game with 66 receiving yards and surpassed 1,000 yards for the season — the fifth time in his CFL career he has reached that mark. Harris, for his part, threw for 302 yards.
As reported by The Globe and Mail, newly elected B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson attended the game in person alongside former British Columbia premier Christy Clark.
Looking ahead, the Roughriders host the Calgary Stampeders on Oct. 2, while the Lions travel to face the Toronto Argonauts on Oct. 3.
