A teenager has died after a road crash in Banbury, Oxfordshire, prompting her family to share an emotional tribute. Esme Heaton-Biggs, 18, was behind the wheel of a white Volkswagen Polo on Saturday evening when it collided with a white Mercedes on Bloxham Road. She was taken to hospital but died from her injuries.

A bright light lost

In a statement released through Thames Valley Police, Esme's family described her as funny, kind, stubborn, witty and beautiful both inside and out. They said the world had suddenly become dimmer with the loss of one of its brightest and most unique presences, and that she was a deeply loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin whose death leaves an enormous void for many people.

The family noted that Esme had only just begun her adult life, enjoying holidays and nights out with friends, and always making time for plans with the people in her life so she could live as fully as possible. They also extended thanks to the communities of Easington and Banbury, along with fire crews, ambulance staff, police officers, and staff at the John Radcliffe Hospital for their support.

Court proceedings

A 36-year-old man, Brian Mclaren, has already appeared in court facing charges including causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the collision. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Oxford Crown Court in early November.
