Elvy, a Stockholm-based company working on the household energy transition under an Energy-as-a-Service model, has announced an undisclosed investment from Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio. It is also launching a customer referral platform.

This is not the first time the actor has backed a European energy-tech startup: in 2023 he invested in German residential solar provider Enpal. The latest news follows Elvy's €5.9 million funding round in May this year. The company's revenue grew tenfold in 2025 compared with the previous year.

Johan Outinen, Elvy's co-founder and CEO, described the actor's involvement as a strong vote of confidence in the company's potential. DiCaprio said Elvy shows that energy efficiency can be both measurable for homeowners and scalable as a business, adding that the company can cut a household's energy consumption by 60% on average.

How Elvy works

Founded in 2023, the company installs smart, integrated energy systems and software, offering them through what it calls the world's first energy subscription. Combining hardware with optimisation software lets households manage energy more intelligently, lowering consumption and costs.

Outinen criticised current subsidies, arguing that they put the financial burden of the transition on consumers and exclude those who cannot afford it. He said consumers can earn money through the company's app by speeding up the transition, and that Elvy created its own subsidy programme as a result.

Sector context

According to EU-Startups, European companies working on household electrification, building energy efficiency and distributed energy management have raised more than €160.9 million in 2026. Notable rounds include €21 million for London-based Axle Energy, €15 million for Oslo-based Photoncycle and €10 million for Berlin-based GALVANY. Berlin-based Cloover secured a €1.02 billion debt facility in January and a further €86.2 million financing facility in September.

The company says households consistently rank as Europe's second-largest energy consumer, pointing to large savings potential.
