The French political landscape shifted this week after an appeals court upheld the guilty verdict against Marine Le Pen for misappropriating European Parliament funds. The court, however, reduced the five-year ban on her standing for public office to fifteen months, noting that the time has already been served.

This decision effectively clears the way for Le Pen to run for president again, restoring her leading role in the far-right National Rally party, currently the most popular political force in France. Consequently, Jordan Bardella, who was widely seen as the likely successor to lead the party in Le Pen's absence, will now play a secondary role.

Bardella's rise and pause become a key story: while he remains an important figure, Le Pen's return pushes him to the background. The situation is being analyzed for its implications on the party's future and the broader French political scene as the country approaches its next presidential election.
