Loan Programme for Debt Refinancing Could Become Available to Latvian Farmers in September
Latvia's Agricultural Advisory Council has agreed on the need for a support programme allowing farmers to refinance their loan obligations. The programme could become available as early as September.

Latvia's Agricultural Advisory Council has agreed that a new loan programme is needed to help farmers refinance their existing credit obligations. According to the council, such a support instrument could become available as soon as September.
Reasons behind the initiative
Council representatives point out that farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with loan repayments. Several factors are cited as contributing to the strain, including unfavorable weather conditions affecting harvests and income, the impact of geopolitical conflicts on the agricultural sector, and market price fluctuations that complicate financial planning for farms.
Purpose of refinancing
The planned programme is intended specifically for refinancing farmers' existing credit obligations, allowing them to restructure debt and ease the financial burden created by external factors beyond their direct control. Specific conditions and the scale of the programme have not yet been disclosed, but it is indicated that it could be launched as early as next month.
