Latvian athletes have won the country's first-ever medals in trail orienteering at the European Championship currently taking place in Poland, the Latvian Orienteering Federation has reported.
Individual silver
Laura Eliza Tabaka won a silver medal in the PreO (Precision Orienteering) discipline in the Open class, becoming the first Latvian to reach the podium in an individual event at a European Championship in this sport.
Junior relay gold
An even bigger achievement came from Latvia's junior relay team, which won the relay competition outright and became European champions, bringing Latvia its first continental title in trail orienteering.
Together, the two results mark a breakthrough championship for the Latvian trail orienteering team, which had not previously won medals at the European level.
