Latvia's next government will have to take unpopular decisions to cut state budget spending. Roughly €450 million in savings must be found next year, and by 2030 the gap between expenditure and revenue could grow to as much as €1.5 billion. The figures were presented by "Nekā personīga", an investigative programme on the commercial channel TV3.
Tax introduction postponed
The headline of the programme's segment says that the introduction of the so-called "Netflix" tax is being put off after objections from the US embassy. Even so, the budget still has to find savings.
What comes next
The programme looks at where the necessary money could be found and which existing decisions may have to be reviewed. What is already known is that the task will fall to the next government and will require unpopular decisions.
