Latvian e-prescriptions to become valid in Greece as well

Latvian residents will be able to use e-prescriptions issued at home while in Greece, and Greek medical staff will be able to access basic health data on Latvian patients when needed, the Latvian Digital Health Centre has announced.

The Latvian Digital Health Centre (LDVC) told the LETA news agency that Latvian residents will from now on be able to use electronic prescriptions issued in Latvia while in Greece.

This means that Latvian patients travelling to Greece will no longer need to request a separate paper prescription or another workaround — local pharmacists will be able to serve them based on the e-prescription already issued in Latvia.

At the same time, Greek healthcare workers will, when necessary, be able to access basic information about the health status of Latvian residents. This could prove useful in emergency situations or other cases where doctors in Greece need to make treatment decisions while aware of a patient's medical history.

The LDVC shared this information in connection with the expansion of a cross-border health data exchange system that allows healthcare systems of different European Union countries to share patient information with one another.
