Latvia, which joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2020, now faces a potential halt to its membership. Minister of Education and Science Ilze Indriksone (National Alliance) announced that the multi-year state budget for the upcoming year does not allocate funds for the country's continued participation in the agency. The needed amount is 6 million euros.

At present, it is unclear whether membership will be maintained. Scientists and industry experts emphasize that ESA membership has opened up opportunities for students and the national economy, making its continuation crucial. According to a report by Latvian Television, while the membership has provided benefits so far, the government still needs to decide on funding.

If the funding is not secured, Latvia could lose its ESA membership, affecting collaborative projects and scientific potential. The issue of budget amendments is still under discussion.
