Latvia is set to see warmer-than-average autumn weather in the second half of October, with occasional rain expected from Friday, 23 October, according to forecasters. The outlook runs to the start of next week and matters to anyone planning outdoor work or travel.
Thursday and Friday
On Thursday, 22 October, skies will be partly cloudy with no precipitation. A moderate southeasterly wind will blow. Night-time minimums will range from +2 degrees in some eastern parts of the country to +11 degrees on the Kurzeme coast, while daytime highs will reach +11 to +16 degrees.
On Friday, rain will start in the southwest and fall in many places. The wind will weaken, and temperatures will reach +10 to +14 degrees.
Weekend and next week
On Saturday and Sunday, cloud cover will vary. Some rain is possible in places in the east. The wind will be light to moderate, from the south and southeast. Nights will stay above freezing, and daytime highs will be +9 to +14 degrees.
At the start of next week it will rain at times, and temperatures will not change sharply.
The longer view
Data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts show that this week and next will be three to four degrees warmer than normal in Latvia. Precipitation is likely to remain below what is typical for autumn. Cold weather is therefore not yet expected in the near term.
