Today, October 1, Latvia is observing the International Day of Older Persons, a day dedicated to honoring the older generation and wishing them health and wellbeing.

Students visit care home residents

On Wednesday, September 30, pupils from grade 5a at Smiltene Secondary School, accompanied by their sports teacher Zanda Beitika, visited the Social Care and Rehabilitation Department of the Smiltene municipal company "Red Cross Smiltene Hospital," commonly known as a care home. The visit aimed to bring joy to the elderly residents ahead of the holiday.

The students brought gifts for the residents and invited the more active ones to join in sports activities together. Through their visit, the children wanted to show respect and attention to the older generation.

The pupils wished every senior good health, luck, happiness and good people around them. The local news outlet joins in these wishes, hoping for strong health and a cheerful spirit for elderly residents, today and in the days to come.
