Latvia hits decade-high renewable energy use as solar power surges
Latvia recorded its highest renewable energy consumption in ten years last year, driven by growing solar capacity, while a US company bought Latvian glass-coating manufacturer Groglass for €62.5 million.

Last year Latvia recorded its highest consumption of renewable energy resources in a decade. Notably, while electricity supplied by hydroelectric plants has declined for two consecutive years, solar power has expanded sharply — both small household and business solar micro-generators and larger solar power stations have significantly increased their output capacity.
Eating habits differ between countryside and cities
Food consumption patterns in Latvia also vary by location. Rural residents eat more eggs and potatoes than city dwellers, while urban residents consume more dairy products such as cheese, kefir and yogurt. Available figures also show the average monthly food spending per person within a household.
Major deal in the tech sector
US company Apogee Enterprises has acquired Latvian high-tech firm Groglass for €62.5 million. Groglass has developed and manufactured innovative anti-reflective glass coatings since 2004. The American buyer has pledged further investment in innovation and in its production facility in Riga, which currently employs 190 people.
