Latvian woman warns about Shein package after family suffers serious health issues
A Latvian woman has shared a warning on social media after her family experienced severe health problems following a Shein delivery. She is urging shoppers to consider product safety rather than just low prices.
A woman named Inese has taken to Facebook to draw attention to the dangers of buying from popular Chinese online shopping platforms such as Shein and Temu. She says her family recently suffered serious health problems after receiving a package from Shein.
Inese admits that her family had occasionally ordered items from China before, but this last delivery turned out to be very costly. She did not reveal which specific product caused the health issues or provide details about their exact nature. According to her post, people often celebrate low prices and treat packages as a small surprise without considering the materials used or the chemicals that may have been applied to products.
She urges particular caution with items that come into direct contact with skin, eyes or mucous membranes. Among the goods she mentions are jewellery, cosmetics, artificial eyelashes and their glues, contact lenses, and various beauty accessories. In her view, the bright images on screen and the tempting price hide what is really behind the shiny facade.
The woman says her family now faces a long and complicated recovery period. She asks other buyers not to be guided solely by price and to think about whether an item is truly necessary before making a purchase. Her post ends with a call to protect one’s health and choose quality over a cheap product that can ruin it.
Official warnings
Concerns about these platforms have also been raised by European institutions and consumer advocates. In a 2025 Greenpeace investigation, 18 out of 56 tested Shein clothing items and shoes contained hazardous chemicals above the limits allowed in the European Union. Meanwhile, European Commission test purchases on Temu found non-compliant products, including children’s toys with excessive concentrations of chemicals.
