Latvian basketball players Strautiņš and Gražulis suffer defeats at start of Italian A series

The new Italian basketball A series season kicked off on Saturday, marking the start of the campaign for two Latvian national team players who continue their careers at Italian clubs.

Artūrs Strautiņš scored 12 points for his team in the season-opening match. Despite his contribution, his team was unable to secure a win.

Andrejs Gražulis found himself in a similar situation, scoring eight points for his club. His team also suffered a defeat in its first game of the new season.

A challenging start for both players

Both Latvians are known in the Italian A series as experienced players who have spent considerable time competing in top-level European championships. This season has begun with losses for both, though a single opening game rarely reflects a team's overall form or potential over the course of a full season.

The Italian A series is regarded as one of the strongest basketball leagues in Europe, regularly featuring national team players from various countries. The presence of Latvian players in this league is considered valuable both for their individual development and for the Latvian national team as a whole, since players competing regularly at a high level also benefit the national squad in international competitions.

It remains to be seen how the two players' teams will fare as the season progresses, but the results of the opening games suggest that competition in the league will be fierce this year.
