Two 20-year-old Latvian ice hockey players, forward Antons Macijevskis and Edvins Berzins, scored the decisive goals in an Alps Hockey League game in northern Italy. The Alps Hockey League is a club competition featuring teams from Austria, Italy and other countries. Both players play for the Salzburg side, which has collected seven points after seven rounds.
Macijevskis is in his first season in the Alps league. He has scored two goals in seven games. In the away match he put three shots on target and made it 2:1 for his team in the 53rd minute.
Berzins has one goal in seven games (1+0). He sealed the result 13 seconds before the end of regulation time by sending the puck into an empty net.
Smirnovs's team loses to the champions in Switzerland
In the Swiss National League, the country's top hockey division, Ajoie lost 2:7 to Fribourg, the reigning national champions. Latvian player Deniss Smirnovs spent 18 minutes on the ice in that game.
