Andris Kulbergs, who currently serves as Prime Minister and could retain that position in a new government, has outlined his approach to the ongoing government formation negotiations. The politician, representing the United List party, has said that during the talks he will evaluate how willing potential coalition partners are to give up promises that are not realistically achievable.

A criterion for negotiations

Kulbergs' stated position suggests that the government formation process will not be judged solely on formal agreements between parties or the distribution of positions, but also on parties' readiness to critically reconsider their pre-election promises. This indicates that the possible prime minister intends to use this factor as one measure for determining which parties are better suited for cooperation in the new coalition.

Context

The statement comes as the process of forming a government in Latvia continues, with various parties engaged in negotiations over potential cooperation. Kulbergs' position on assessing unfulfillable promises could influence how the future governing coalition takes shape and which parties are ultimately included in it.

It is not yet known by what specific criteria Kulbergs plans to determine which promises are considered unfulfillable, but his remarks indicate that this issue will be one of the topics in the ongoing government formation negotiations.
