Reasons for the delay
According to the outlet Eesti Ekspress, the case involves a large volume of evidence that must be carefully reviewed before the trial begins. In addition, the defense attorney still needs to speak with witnesses and meet with Kriisa in person.
Kriisa lives in the state of Kentucky, but his ability to travel elsewhere is reportedly limited. His attorney, L. Richard Walker, also did not have time to travel to Kentucky, as he was occupied with other matters during that period.
Prosecutor did not object
The prosecutor raised no objection to postponing the trial. District Judge John Preston Bailey ultimately decided to move the hearings to October.
Kriisa is accused in the United States of fraud amounting to 2.2 million dollars. The basketball player has pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
