Son of Russian 'Orthodox oligarch' Altushkin crashes family Lamborghini into house, injures war veteran
A Lamborghini driven by David, son of copper magnate Igor Altushkin, crashed into a house in Yekaterinburg, injuring several people including a veteran recently returned from the war in Ukraine. The car belonged to the billionaire, known for funding churches and a Russian army battalion.
A purple Lamborghini crashed into a residential house at 1 Otradnaya Street in Yekaterinburg on the evening of August 11, according to news outlet E1.ru and the Telegram channel "Baza," which has ties to Russia's security services. Paramedics and police responded to the scene.
Footage from the scene shows the sports car striking several scooters, though it remains unclear whether anyone was riding them at the time. Traffic police in the Sverdlovsk region said the driver lost control of the vehicle, injuring one pedestrian.
The car belongs to Ural businessman Igor Altushkin, owner of the Russian Copper Company. His son, David, was behind the wheel and was injured in the crash. According to the outlet Mash, the vehicle had accumulated 16 speeding citations.
"Baza" reported that two men sitting on the house's porch were also injured. One of them, who had recently returned from the war in Ukraine and was walking with crutches, suffered multiple fractures and a closed traumatic brain injury. The Telegram channel Ostorozhno, Novosti reported that former professional boxer Timur Khalilov, 23, was also hurt. Khalilov had been arrested in spring 2025 on kidnapping charges and, by that time, had already signed a contract with Russia's Ministry of Defense.
A donor to churches and the war effort
Altushkin has been dubbed an "Orthodox oligarch" for financing the construction and restoration of churches in the Sverdlovsk region and regularly donating expensive icons to the Russian Orthodox Church. In 2019, his plan to build a church on parkland in Yekaterinburg triggered widespread local protests.
Forbes Russia estimates his fortune at $4.9 billion. Independent outlet The Moscow Times has reported that Altushkin sponsors the "Ural" battalion, an assault unit of Russia's Defense Ministry fighting in Ukraine's Luhansk region. According to independent outlet Novaya Gazeta, his wife and one son hold British citizenship, and the family owns a mansion and several apartments in London.
