Russian strikes on Kyiv kill at least four as Ukraine hits Russian oil refinery
At least four people, including a child, died in Russian drone and missile strikes on Kyiv and surrounding areas early Saturday, while Ukraine continued its near-daily campaign against Russian oil facilities with another refinery strike.
Russian forces launched a wave of drone and missile strikes on Kyiv and nearby regions overnight into Saturday, killing at least four people, including a child.
Depleted air defences exploited
Reports indicate that Moscow is currently taking advantage of Ukraine's weakened air defence capabilities to carry out large-scale, multi-wave drone and missile attacks. This suggests Ukraine's ability to intercept such strikes has diminished recently, allowing Russia to hit civilian and other targets in and around the capital with greater intensity.
Ukraine's response — another refinery hit
At the same time, Ukraine is continuing its long-running campaign targeting Russia's oil industry. Kyiv's forces struck another oil refinery on Russian territory, part of a pattern of nearly daily long-range attacks. The aim is to increase pressure on Moscow's fuel supplies, compounding difficulties for Russia's economy and military logistics.
Both sides continue trading long-range strikes, a sign that the fighting shows no signs of easing despite international calls to end the conflict.
