Coventry strengthens squad ahead of Premier League return after 25 years
Coventry are making several new signings ahead of their return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, including deals in progress for striker Sidiki Cherif and midfielder Taiwo Awoniyi.
Coventry City, set to return to the English Premier League for the first time in 25 years, are actively strengthening their squad ahead of the new season. The club plans to sign striker Sidiki Cherif from Fenerbahce for 24 million euros.
Coventry had already completed the signing of midfielder Caleb Ekuban Jirenkyi for 27 million euros, and had also brought in Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United.
Deals expected before Friday
The club is expected to finalise both the Awoniyi and Cherif transfers before Friday's anticipated Premier League return match against Arsenal.
Awoniyi previously became Nottingham Forest's then-record signing in 2022, joining from Union Berlin for 20 million euros. The 29-year-old scored 23 goals in 103 appearances for Forest, but was behind strikers Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the club's pecking order and was left out of the squad for last season's Europa League campaign.
