The MP, Time Kadrijaj of the Alliance party, hurled at least four eggs in Kurti's direction. Other lawmakers along with police officers present in the chamber stepped in to intervene and bring the disruption to an end.
Root of the tension
The outburst followed remarks from Kurti telling parliament that he needed more time to hold talks with other parties before he could propose a candidate for the position of speaker. The dispute stems from the aftermath of Kosovo's snap election held in June, after which lawmakers have yet to agree on a new parliamentary leadership.
The incident highlights the ongoing political tension in Kosovo, where the prolonged inability to form a governing coalition and elect a speaker continues to stall the functioning of state institutions following the vote.
