A family with two children and a grandmother was returning home by bus after a walk in central Riga. While boarding, the stroller accidentally bumped into another passenger's grandson, after which the woman began insulting the family. According to Samanta, the mother, as the bus approached their stop, the conflict escalated: Samanta's mother pushed the woman, and the other passenger sprayed pepper spray towards the family, hitting the six-month-old baby in the eyes.
The other side gives a different account. She claims that offensive remarks were directed at her grandson, who has a disability, and that she was later pushed out of the bus. She denies intentionally spraying the baby, stating that the spray was used during the conflict and that she and her grandson suffered more.
The State Police have started an investigation into the incident. Baiba Bartaševiča-Feldmane, a representative of "Rīgas satiksme", noted that the bus driver did not notice the conflict as it did not attract his attention.
Both parties have submitted statements to the police. Further details will be clarified during the investigation.
