Anti-corruption bureau to review Kulbergs and United List's Kurzeme trip

Latvia's Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has announced it will open a departmental review into activities carried out last Friday by representatives of the party alliance "United List" (Apvienotais saraksts).

The review will examine whether these activities, which involved Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, complied with the requirements of the Pre-election Campaigning Law. KNAB confirmed the start of the review publicly but has not yet released further details about the specific circumstances being examined.

The Pre-election Campaigning Law regulates how political parties and alliances may campaign ahead of elections, including restrictions on the use of public resources and on campaign financing. KNAB is the state body responsible for overseeing compliance with this law and has the authority to open reviews when there is suspicion of possible violations.

It is not yet known how long the review will take or what its outcome will be. KNAB is continuing to gather information about the trip in question in order to assess whether any violations of the law occurred.
